What is the Briarwood Elementary School Foundation?

The Briarwood Foundation is a group of parent volunteers dedicated to raising money to provide all children at Briarwood Elementary with an exceptional public school education. The Briarwood Foundation is supported by Briarwood Elementary parents, families, neighbors, and our local community.

Where does the money raised go?

The money raised by the Briarwood Foundation goes to grants requested by the Briarwood Principal, Briarwood Teachers, and Staff. These grants directly benefit the students at Briarwood.

Why does the school need money?

The state of Kansas has reduced funding to public schools resulting in increased class sizes, loss of resources, programs, and auxiliary staff.

How is the Briarwood Foundation different from the Briarwood PTA?

The primary purpose of the Briarwood Foundation is to raise funds to cover costs of items and programs not provided by federal, state, school district, school or PTA budgets.

Who chooses how the Briarwood Elementary School Foundation’s money is spent?

The Briarwood Foundation Board of Directors, in collaboration with the Briarwood Principal, determines from year to year how funds are spent, according to greatest need.

How can I get involved? What else is needed?

Our wish is that we get as many Briarwood parents and families to participate in the success of our school, giving their time, skills, services and/or money. We urge you donate and make a difference in your own child’s education and the lives of all of the children at Briarwood Elementary School. If you are interested in volunteering or have suggestions or fundraising ideas, please contact us.

Did you say Tax DEDUCTION?

YES! As an educational, non-profit, 501(c)(3) public foundation, all donations are tax deductible!
The Briarwood Foundation is an affiliated fund of the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, Tax ID #74-2823938. The Briarwood Foundation benefits education programs and projects at Briarwood Elementary School in the Shawnee Mission School District. Contributions may be tax-deductible as allowed by law. Consult your tax advisor for further information.

How do I communicate my ideas to the board members?

We value feedback from our Briarwood Elementary families. Please contact us with any ideas via our email. Please send to Valerie Moeder at valerielmoeder@gmail.com.
